We’re Sharon Grigsby and Matt Goodman, two veteran journalists who have spent our careers reporting stories about Dallas and North Texas. You know Sharon from her decades at the Dallas Morning News, most recently as city columnist. Matt was at D Magazine for 11 years, even though he’s from Houston. Also on our team is Kelli Smith, a staff writer who most recently covered the Dallas Police Department for the News.

Our shop is incubated through the nonprofit Child Poverty Action Lab, and we like to think of it as the city’s next great metro page. Our publisher, Alan Cohen, explains here why CPAL has launched a nonprofit newsroom.

We cover housing, criminal justice, neighborhoods, public services, health, and plenty of other issues that shape how Dallas families live. We want to know what’s working, what’s not, and why. We want to introduce you to people doing exciting work in these spaces as well as those affected by the issues we’re covering.

Our goal is to produce useful, compelling, evidence-driven journalism that helps this city become more opportunity-rich for everyone. We want to help Dallas understand itself, and we won’t be able to do it without you. We’re excited—and grateful—that you’ve chosen to join us.
